September - Hello Everyone,
As I write this President's Message, we are still in the
dog days of summer. Nevertheless, we have had a couple
of cool mornings and evenings the last couple of days
which lead me to believe that there is a hint of fall in the air. And
fall brings all sorts of activities to our neighborhood.
On September 4, there will be a golf tournament sponsored
by City Limit's bar, with proceeds going to help out with the construction
of the dog park in Latrobe Park. So, regardless of
whether you are a scratch golfer or you just like to ride around in
the little carts, consider going out to play to support this cause.
About a week later - from September 12 through Sunday,
September 14 - Fort McHenry will be the center of the "Star-
Spangled Weekend," which will consist of numerous events to
commemorate Defender's Day. Activities will include music,
parades, fireworks, a military encampment with re-enactors, and
a symbolic ship-to-shore bombardment. So mark your calendars!
See the Defender's Day item in the In Brief section of this month's
newsletter for more information on activities and times.
Finally - and perhaps the biggest event - is the Locust Point
Festival, which is scheduled for September 27 in Latrobe Park.
Like last year, there will be music, food, drinks and plenty of
activities for the kids. And - oh yeah - kruscikis! However, the
Civic Association needs lots of help to put on the festival. So,
please contact Sarah Clarkson or other members of the Social
Committee and volunteer to help out with the festival or the making
of the kruscikis. I volunteered for both activities for the last
two years, and I can say with confidence that both are fun and
rewarding experiences.
In regards to business, we are tentatively planning on having
a final vote on Tide Point's proposed Amended Planned Unit
Development (PUD) at the September meeting. This is the same
development that we have been working on since last December
and about which we had the special meeting in March. Before the
vote, there will be at least two information sessions at which you
can learn details, ask questions, and make comments on the proposed
plan. This is a very important issue, so please plan on coming
to the September meeting and to at least one of the informational
sessions.
And, of course, fall also brings NFL Football. Go Ravens!
